The week of 9/19
09/19/2011 14:02Last week and this week we have been working on personal narratives. The key word that we have discussed in class is "FOCUS!" A personal narrative should take place over a 3-5 minute period of time. We discussed how to organize a narrative.
The opening of a personal narrative should include the who and the what with some zip. In other words after reading an opening the reader should be able to tell who the narrative is about and what the narrative is about. The zip is making the writing interesting so that the reader wants to continue reading. To include "zip" the we have discussed:
Vivid Verbs
Figurative Language (metaphores, similies, idioms, alliteration, onomatopoeia, and hyperbole)
Including the who, what, where, why, when, and the how. (not necessarly all at once)
5 senses
Show don’t tell (Don't tell me you are angry, show me you are angry.)
